Esports: Inside The World Of Competitive Gaming | NBC News
The documentary “Esports: Inside The World Of Competitive Gaming” follows the first-ever Overwatch League Grand Finals which takes place at New York’s Barclays Center and is followed by NBC News’ Simone Boyce. Some of the biggest competitive plays in the industry get interviewed and tell us how the industry is rising. The film definitely confirms my research, it supports my reasoning for the growth of Esports. The short film tells us about the literal growth of Esports by telling us the revenue numbers. Simon Boyce tells us that the industry was set to produce “one billion dollars in revenue, which is almost double that of two years ago”. This shows the rapid growth of the industry and its large potential. One of my main reasons to explain the growth of the industry was the advancement of technology. In the documentary, around one minute and thirty seconds Boyce says “the rise of computers and the internet changed everything… people left arcades and connected virtually at home building online gaming communities”. This shows that technology was an appealing factor to people because they left arcades to go the online gaming route. It also supported my research by showing a new example to how much Esports has grown. The documentary showed a statistic that said that Esports is an official sport in 20,000 highschools across the United States, in which they play multiple different videogames and even have state championships.
